We always recommend renting a car at Chania Airport (Daskalogiannis, CHQ) or directly in the city. From Chania, the journey takes approximately 15-20 minutes by car, covering a distance of about 13-15 kilometers. The route is picturesque, passing through small villages and Cretan landscapes that are a delight to the eyes in themselves. The Akrotiri peninsula is well signposted, and once you approach the Tersanas area, you will find clear signs to the beach. The trip is short and pleasant, preparing you for a day of relaxation by the sea.

For those who prefer not to drive, there are public transport options, although they are less direct. The local KTEL Chania buses connect the city with some nearby villages in Akrotiri, such as Kalathas or Stavros, but they generally require an additional walk or taxi ride to reach the beach directly. For this reason, a rental car remains our preferred option for exploring with complete freedom not only Playa de Tersanas but also the countless beaches in Greece that dot the Cretan coast. Parking in Tersanas is limited, but there is usually space in the surrounding areas or in the parking lots of the beach bars if you are a customer.

The Sand and the Water

Playa de Tersanas is a true delight for the senses, and its sand is one of its strong points. We find fine sand with a soft golden hue, which feels wonderful underfoot. It is perfect for building sandcastles with the little ones or simply for lying down and enjoying the sun. The beach is predominantly sandy, both on the surface and on the seabed, making it very comfortable for entering and exiting the water without worrying about sharp rocks or pebbles. This uniformity of the seabed contributes to the clarity of the water and the feeling of safety it conveys.
