How to Get to Playa de Kavos

Getting to Playa de Kavos is relatively straightforward, although it requires a short journey from the island's capital. Most international travelers land at Corfu International Airport 'Ioannis Kapodistrias' (CFU), which is near Corfu City (Kerkyra). From there, we have several options to head south, about 45-50 kilometers away, to this vibrant tourist enclave.

From the Airport or Corfu City

• By Bus: The most economical and popular option is to use the public bus service (KTEL Corfu). There are regular routes from Corfu City's bus station that connect to Kavos. It's a scenic journey, although it can take around an hour and a half, depending on traffic and stops. Schedules are usually frequent during the high season, but it's advisable to check them in advance. It's an excellent way to see some of the island's rural and coastal landscape as we head to our destination Corfu beach.

• By Taxi: For those seeking comfort and speed, a taxi is the best alternative. The journey from the airport or Corfu City to Kavos takes approximately one hour. While it's more expensive than the bus, it can be a good option if we're traveling in a group, thus splitting the cost. Taxis are available right outside the airport terminal.

• Rental Car: Renting a car offers us maximum flexibility to explore not only Kavos, but also the surrounding areas and other Corfu beaches. There are numerous car rental agencies at the airport and in Corfu City. The drive to Kavos is quite straightforward, following the main road south. However, once in Kavos, parking can be a challenge, especially in high season, as the area is very busy. We advise booking the car in advance, especially if traveling in the summer months.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Kavos is a delight for the senses, especially when it comes to its sand and waters. We are faced with an extensive strip of fine, golden sand, stretching for approximately 1800 meters, inviting us to walk barefoot, build sandcastles or simply lie down to sunbathe. The texture of the sand is soft and pleasant, making it perfect for spending hours relaxing under the warm Greek sun. Unlike other Corfu beaches that may be rockier or pebbly, Kavos offers us a uniform and comfortable surface, ideal for all kinds of beach activities.

But what really distinguishes Playa de Kavos are its waters. We immerse ourselves in the calm, crystal-clear waters of the Ionian Sea, which here present a characteristic that makes them exceptionally attractive: they are extraordinarily shallow. We can venture quite a few meters into the sea and the water will barely cover our knees or waist. This particularity makes it an ideal place for families with young children, as they can play and splash safely, and also for those who don't feel comfortable in deep water. The gentle slope of the seabed is remarkable, providing a gradual and surprise-free entry into the water.

In addition to its shallowness, the waters of Kavos are known for their pleasant temperature. During the summer months, the sea warms up considerably, offering us a warm and comforting swim, perfect for cooling off from the heat of the sun. The clarity of the water, although it may sometimes appear slightly murky due to the movement of sand in the busier areas, allows us to see the sandy bottom and enjoy a refreshing dip. In summary, the combination of fine sand and calm, shallow waters makes Playa de Kavos an exceptionally welcoming place for swimming, playing and fully enjoying the Mediterranean, solidifying it as one of the most accessible Greece beaches for general enjoyment.
