The main starting point is the port of Piraeus in Athens. From here, there are several ferry options that will take you to the island's capital, Aegina Town. The 'Flying Dolphin' or 'Flyingcat' boats are the fastest options, with a journey lasting approximately 30-40 minutes. They are ideal if time is limited or if you prefer a faster crossing. If you prefer a more economical option with the possibility of taking your car, the conventional ferries take about 1 hour and 15 minutes. We always enjoy the outdoor deck of the latter, where the salty air and views of the Saronic Gulf prepare you for disconnection.

From Aegina Town to Agia Marina

Once you arrive in Aegina Town, you have several ways to reach Playa de Agia Marina, which is located on the east side of the island, about 15 kilometers from the capital. The most popular and convenient option is to take one of the local buses that depart regularly from the bus station, located near the port. The buses are well-marked and the journey offers charming island landscapes, passing through small villages and rural areas before descending towards Agia Marina Bay. The bus ride usually takes about 20-30 minutes and is an economical and authentic way to get around.

Alternatively, taxis are available at the port of Aegina Town. This is a faster and more comfortable option, especially if you are traveling with a lot of luggage or in a group. Prices are reasonable and drivers are usually friendly and knowledgeable about the island. For those who prefer to explore at their own pace, renting a car, a motorbike, or even a quad is an excellent idea. There are several rental agencies in Aegina Town and in Agia Marina. We usually opt for the latter if we plan to make several excursions around the island, as it gives us total freedom to discover hidden coves and less-traveled corners. The road to Agia Marina is in good condition and offers spectacular panoramic views of the Aegean Sea, especially at sunset, when the sky is tinged with orange and pink tones, creating an unforgettable backdrop for your arrival at the Aegina beach.

The Sand and the Water

This clarity is a constant invitation to swim, snorkel, and simply admire the underwater life which, although not spectacularly diverse as in other diving destinations, does offer small fish and interesting rock formations near the ends of the bay.

One of the most notable features of Playa de Agia Marina is its shallowness. The seabed descends very gently, which means you can go quite far into the sea before the water completely covers you. This characteristic makes it exceptionally safe and attractive for families with young children, who can splash and play without worries. We have observed relaxed parents while their children enjoy the gentle waves in a controlled and safe environment. The water temperature, especially during the summer months, is pleasantly warm, allowing for prolonged and refreshing swims that are the very essence of a holiday on the Greece beaches.
