How to Get to Playa de Souvala

Getting to Playa de Souvala is an intrinsic part of the adventure and, fortunately, it is quite straightforward, especially when traveling from Athens. The most common and picturesque way is undoubtedly by ferry. We highly recommend this experience, as the sea journey offers spectacular views of the Saronic Gulf.

From Athens (Port of Piraeus)

The Port of Piraeus in Athens is the main departure point for reaching Aegina. There are two types of vessels operating the route:

• Conventional ferries: These are slower (approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes), but also more economical and allow vehicle transport. If you are traveling by car, this is the ideal option. Plus, the deck stroll with the sea breeze is a delight.
• Flying Dolphins: These are high-speed vessels that reduce travel time to about 30-40 minutes. They are perfect if you seek speed, although they do not allow vehicle transport and are usually a bit more expensive.

When we talk about Playa de Souvala, we refer to a distinctive coastal experience that moves away from the typical fine-sand beaches one might imagine. Here, nature surprises us with a particular combination that enhances its local and authentic charm.

Sand Type and Seabed

Playa de Souvala is characterized by having a mixed sand type. This means you will find a combination of coarser sand and small stones or pebbles. Do not expect soft, powdery sand; instead, prepare for a more textured surface that, in our opinion, adds a rustic and natural touch to the beach. The predominant seabed type is therefore mixed, both on the shore and as you enter the water, where sand and stones mix. We always recommend bringing sandals or water shoes, especially if you have sensitive feet, for greater comfort when walking and entering the sea.

Water Quality and Characteristics

What truly won us over about Playa de Souvala is the impressive clarity and cleanliness of its waters. They are, without exaggeration, crystal clear. The transparency is such that, even at a certain depth, you can easily see the seabed. This is partly due to the nature of the seabed and the shallowness near the shore, making it an exceptionally safe and pleasant place for swimming, especially for children. The waters are generally very calm, protected from strong winds, creating a perfect natural pool for swimming, floating, and simply relaxing. The color of the sea varies between a soft turquoise and a deep blue, offering a visual spectacle that invites total immersion. For us, the water quality is one of the strong points that makes this beach such an attractive and refreshing destination.
