How to Get to Playa de Kavos

Getting to Playa de Kavos is part of the adventure and allows us to appreciate the diverse landscapes of Evia. Given its location in the southern part of the island, the main access routes involve a road trip and, in some cases, a ferry journey, which adds a special touch to the experience.

From Athens and Mainland Greece

If you're coming from Athens or any other part of mainland Greece, you have two main options to reach Evia:

• Via the Chalkida Bridge: The most direct way to access the island is by crossing the bridge that connects the mainland with the city of Chalkida, the capital of Evia. From there, you'll need to drive south, following signs to Marmari or Karystos. The journey from Chalkida to the Kavos area can take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. It's a scenic route that crosses the heart of the island, offering views of mountains, valleys, and small villages.

• By Ferry from Rafina: A very popular alternative, especially for those who want to explore the southern part of the island without going through Chalkida, is to take a ferry from the port of Rafina (about 30 km from central Athens and near Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport) to Marmari or Karystos. Ferries to Marmari are more frequent and the trip takes about 1 hour. Once in Marmari, Playa de Kavos is a short drive away, usually about 10-15 minutes. It's an option we recommend if you prefer a more relaxed sea journey and arriving directly in the south of the island.

Once in Evia

Whether you arrive in Chalkida or Marmari, you will need a vehicle to comfortably access Playa de Kavos. The island of Evia is large and, although there is limited public transport, a rental car will give you the freedom to explore not only Kavos but also the charming nearby villages and other hidden corners of this magnificent Evia beach. From Marmari, follow signs south or ask the locals; often, the most idyllic beaches require a small detour onto secondary roads, which adds to their 'discovery' charm. The final access to the beach is usually via a well-maintained dirt road, leading to an area where you can park informally, very close to the sand.
