How to Get to Playa de Finikas

The island has no airport, so the main access is by ferry. We recommend flying to Athens or a nearby island with an international airport like Naxos or Mykonos, and from there taking a ferry to Koufonisia. There are regular connections, especially during the high season, with operators like Blue Star Ferries or Seajets, offering trips from Piraeus (Athens) or from other Cycladic islands.

Once in Koufonisia, Playa de Finikas is located a very comfortable distance from the main port and the village of Chora. We usually choose to walk, as it's a charming 15-20 minute stroll along the coast, enjoying the views of the Aegean Sea. Another very popular and eco-friendly option is to rent a bicycle; Koufonisia is a small and flat island, ideal for exploring on two wheels. There is also a small local bus that runs to the main beaches during the summer season, making stops at places like Finikas and Pori. If we are traveling with a lot of luggage or prefer comfort, we can always take one of the few taxis available on the island, although the charm of Koufonisia lies precisely in its size and the ease of getting around on foot or by bicycle.

If we had to describe the sand and water of Playa de Finikas, we would undoubtedly use the words 'idyllic' and 'crystal-clear'. The sand here is of a fine and golden type, incredibly soft underfoot, inviting you to walk barefoot along the shore or simply lie down to enjoy the sun without needing a towel. It is clean and well-maintained sand, blending harmoniously with the surrounding landscape. The predominant type of ground in the bathing area is, of course, sand, which guarantees a smooth and surprise-free entry into the sea, perfect for everyone.

But it's the water that truly takes our breath away. The waters of Playa de Finikas are of astonishing transparency, with shades ranging from the lightest aquamarine to an intense blue in the deeper areas. They look like they're from a postcard. They are calm waters, protected from the prevailing winds, making them ideal for swimming and relaxing. The underwater visibility is exceptional, inviting you to snorkel and discover the marine life that inhabits the sandy bottom. The water temperature is generally very pleasant during the summer months, offering a refreshing relief from the heat of the sun. It is, in short, a place where the sea invites us to immerse ourselves and forget everything, a sensory experience that stays etched in memory.

Despite its tranquil and natural atmosphere, Playa de Finikas offers a series of essential services that make our stay more comfortable and pleasant, without falling into overcrowding. One of the strong points of this beach is the availability of sunbeds and umbrellas for rent. This allows us to enjoy the shade and comfort without having to carry our own equipment, something we always appreciate. The organization is simple and the prices are usually reasonable, making it easy to plan a full day of relaxation under the Greek sun.

The most notable service, and for many the soul of the beach, is its chiringuito, or rather, the famous Finikas Taverna. This establishment offers not only refreshing drinks and coffees but also delicious dishes of traditional Greek cuisine, prepared with fresh, local ingredients. It's the perfect place for a light lunch or a sunset dinner, enjoying the sea views. Furthermore, the taverna usually offers showers so we can rinse off the salt and sand before returning to our accommodation, a detail that is always appreciated. Although there is no formal, large parking lot, there is a designated area for informal parking near the beach, which facilitates access if we arrive by car or motorbike, although as already mentioned, most people prefer to walk or go by bicycle. It's important to note that, being a beach more oriented towards relaxation, it does not have services like permanent lifeguards or full accessibility for people with reduced mobility, which we should consider when planning our visit.

Choosing the best time to visit Playa de Finikas and Koufonisia in general is crucial to fully enjoy its charm.
