How to Get to Playa de Mavrovouni

Getting to Playa de Mavrovouni is relatively straightforward, and the journey itself is an opportunity to admire the picturesque landscapes of the Peloponnese. By Car

For most visitors, the car is the most comfortable and flexible option. From Athens, the journey takes approximately 3-4 hours, depending on traffic and any stops we make. The route takes us along well-maintained roads, crossing mountainous landscapes and olive groves. Once in Gythio, Playa de Mavrovouni is just a few kilometers to the south, easily accessible via a signposted coastal road. Having a vehicle gives us the freedom to explore not only the beach but also the numerous attractions in the surrounding area.

By Bus

For those who prefer public transport, there are intercity buses (KTEL) connecting Athens with Gythio. Once in Gythio, we can take a local taxi or, if we are staying near the beach, our accommodation may offer some transfer service. Although less direct than by car, it is a viable alternative to reach this wonderful Greece beach.

The Sand and Water

We encounter an extensive strip of sand mixed with fine small pebbles, stretching for kilometers, offering ample space for everyone. The high season, covering the months of July and August, is when the beach is at its peak. The weather is warm and sunny, ideal for swimming and sunbathing. It's the time with the most atmosphere and all services are fully operational. However, it is also when the beach receives the most visitors, although due to its great expanse, it never feels excessively crowded, which is a great advantage compared to other Greece beaches.
