How to Get to Playa de Almyros

Getting to Playa de Almyros is surprisingly easy, which contributes to its popularity. If we arrive in Crete by plane, we'll most likely land at Heraklion International Airport (HER), which is about 60-70 kilometers away. From there, we have several options to reach our destination.

By Rental Car

For us, the most comfortable and flexible option is always to rent a car. This allows us to explore Crete at our own pace and discover hidden corners. From Heraklion, we'll take the E75 national road east towards Agios Nikolaos. The journey is picturesque and well-signposted, lasting about an hour. Once near Agios Nikolaos, signs will easily guide us to the Playa de Almyros beach. The beach has a large free Parking area, which is a great advantage, especially in high season.

By Public Bus

The KTEL bus network in Crete is efficient and connects the main cities and towns. From the Heraklion bus station, we can take a direct bus to Agios Nikolaos. Once in Agios Nikolaos, Playa de Almyros is so close that you can even walk there in about 20-30 minutes, taking a pleasant seaside stroll. There are also local buses or taxis that can take us directly to the beach from the city center. This is an excellent option if we prefer not to drive and enjoy the scenery.

By Taxi

For those seeking maximum comfort without worrying about parking or schedules, a taxi from Heraklion or Agios Nikolaos is a viable option. The cost will be higher, but the trip will be direct and hassle-free, leaving us right at the beach entrance.
