How to get to Playa de Egremni

Getting to Playa de Egremni is, in itself, part of the adventure and charm of this very special place. For many years, its main access was via an impressive staircase of more than 300 steps that descended down the cliff, offering spectacular panoramic views at every step. However, after the 2015 earthquakes, this staircase suffered serious damage and, although there have been efforts to rebuild it, land access remains complicated and uncertain, often closed for safety. This circumstance has consolidated maritime access as the most reliable and popular way to reach this paradise.

Main access: Boat tours

The vast majority of visitors reach Egremni through boat tours departing from various ports in Lefkada. The most common departure points are:

• Nydri: This is the largest and busiest port on the island, offering the greatest variety of tour options. From Nydri, tours are usually full-day and combine a visit to Egremni with other famous beaches like Porto Katsiki, as well as stops on the nearby islands of Meganisi and the legendary Skorpios. The boat trip from Nydri is an experience in itself, sailing through the turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea and enjoying the views of the coast. The vessels range from large tourist boats with music and atmosphere to smaller, more exclusive catamarans. The journey can take between 1 and 1.5 hours to Egremni, depending on intermediate stops.
• Vassiliki: Located in the south of the island, Vassiliki is a smaller port known as a paradise for water sports. From here, tours to Egremni are usually more direct and, therefore, somewhat shorter in duration. It is an excellent option if we are staying in the south of Lefkada and want to maximize time on the beach. The boats are usually medium-sized and offer a more intimate experience. The sailing time to Egremni from Vassiliki is approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Tips for boat access

We always recommend booking the tour in advance, especially during the high season (July and August), to secure our spot. It is important to choose a tour that offers us enough time to enjoy the beach, as some only make a quick stop for swimming from the boat. Most tours include the possibility of going ashore and spending a couple of hours on the sand. It is also advisable to bring everything needed for the beach, as, as we will see later, services at Egremni are practically non-existent. The boat crossing is spectacular, allowing us to admire the imposing coast of Lefkada from a unique perspective and preparing us for the majesty that awaits us upon arrival at Playa de Egremni.

The most distinctive and captivating feature of Egremni is, without a doubt, the combination of its type of ground and the incredible quality of its waters. We are not talking about a typical fine golden sand beach; Egremni surprises us with something even more unique and beautiful.

The ground: Immaculate white pebbles

Upon disembarking, our feet meet a bed of white pebbles, polished and smooth, varying in size from small stones almost like grains of rice to larger pebbles. This particular type of ground, often described as a mix of coarse sand and small pebbles, is what gives the beach its characteristic luminosity. The pebbles, mostly marble and eroded limestone from the surrounding cliffs, reflect sunlight in an astonishing way, intensifying the brightness of the water and sky. Walking on them is a different experience; we recommend sandals or water shoes for greater comfort, especially when entering and exiting the water. The sensation is cool and clean, and the sound of the waves dragging the pebbles is a natural and relaxing melody.
