How to Get to Playa de Mikros Gialos

Getting to Playa de Mikros Gialos is relatively straightforward, although it requires a car, as there is no direct and regular public transport that reaches here. From the island's capital, Lefkada Town, the journey takes approximately 40-45 minutes by car. We will take the main road that crosses the island to the south, passing through towns like Nidri and Vlicho, until we turn off towards the village of Poros. The beach is located just below Poros, in a protected bay.

From Lefkada Town

• Let's take the Epar.Od. Lefkadas-Vasilikis road.
• Follow the signs towards Nidri and then towards Poros.
• Once in Poros, there are signs that will guide us to the beach, which is at the end of a winding road downhill.

From Nidri

• The journey is much shorter, around 15-20 minutes.
• From Nidri, follow the main road south towards Vassiliki.
• Look for the signposted turnoff towards Poros and Mikros Gialos. It's a well-paved road, although with some sharp curves due to the island's topography.
• There is a large parking lot right behind the beach, which facilitates access even in high season, although we always recommend arriving early to secure a good spot.

The Shore and the Water

When we talk about Playa de Mikros Gialos, we must clarify that it is not a sandy beach in the traditional sense. Its charm lies precisely in its smooth, white pebbles, which cover the entire shoreline. These pebbles are small and polished by the sea, making them comfortable to walk on, although it's always a good idea to bring water shoes, especially if our feet are sensitive or if we plan to explore the nearby rocks. The absence of fine sand also means an advantage: the water remains incredibly clear and free of suspended particles, even at high tide or with an influx of bathers.

The waters of Mikros Gialos are, without exaggeration, spectacular. Their hue varies from a bright turquoise blue near the shore to a deep sapphire blue as we go further out. The clarity is such that we can see the seabed with perfect clarity, making it an ideal spot for snorkeling. Furthermore, being sheltered in a bay, the sea is usually calm, almost like a natural pool, with very few waves. The water temperature is pleasantly warm during the summer months, inviting us to spend hours swimming and cooling off. It is, without a doubt, one of the Lefkada beaches with the most tempting water.

• Sunbeds and umbrellas: Along the beach, we will find numerous rows of umbrellas and comfortable sunbeds available for rent. This is ideal for protecting ourselves from the intense Greek sun and enjoying a day of absolute rest by the sea. Prices are usually reasonable for a full day.
• Chiringuitos and restaurants: Right at the back of the beach and along the small road leading to it, there are several chiringuitos and traditional tavernas. Here we can enjoy coffee, soft drinks, ice cream, as well as delicious dishes from local Greek cuisine. Many of these establishments offer spectacular views of the bay, making a meal or a drink an even more pleasant experience.
• Showers and Toilets/WC: There are shower facilities to rinse off the salt and sand (or rather, the pebbles) after a refreshing swim. We also have public toilets, which is essential for a comfortable stay at the beach.
• Parking: As mentioned in the 'How to Get There' section, the beach has a large parking area. This is a great advantage, as it saves us the worry of looking for parking, especially during the high season months.
• Lifeguard service: During the high season, the beach usually has a lifeguard service, which adds an extra layer of safety, especially for those traveling with children. It's a detail that gives us peace of mind while enjoying the waters.
