This relatively secluded gem, located on the southeast coast of the island, offers a completely different experience from its more famous sisters like Paradise or Super Paradise. Here, the atmosphere is serene, ideal for those seeking to disconnect and immerse themselves in the peace of the Aegean. Its hypnotic turquoise-blue waters invite a refreshing swim, while its soft sand welcomes us for hours of rest under the sun. It's a destination we highly recommend for couples, families, and any traveler yearning for calm and unfiltered beauty on their Mykonos beaches.

How to Get to Playa de Lia

Getting to Playa de Lia is part of the adventure and, although it's not as accessible as other Mykonos beaches, the journey is worth it. We opted to rent a car, which gave us the freedom to explore the island at our own pace. From Mykonos Town (Chora), the trip takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic and our skill driving the island's winding roads. The route is well signposted, although a good GPS is always an ally to avoid getting lost on the rural paths.

Transport Options

• Rental car or scooter: Undoubtedly the most comfortable and flexible option. There are several rental agencies in Mykonos Town and at the airport. Remember to drive with caution, as some roads can be narrow and with sharp curves. Parking at the beach is usually free and quite spacious, which is a plus.
• Taxi or private transfer: A more expensive but very comfortable option, especially if we're traveling in a group or don't want to worry about driving. We can book a taxi from our hotel or directly at the airport. Make sure to negotiate the price in advance or that the taximeter is running.
• Bus: Although Mykonos has a public bus service, routes to more remote beaches like Lia are less frequent or non-existent. For Lia, we would have to take a bus to Ano Mera and from there a taxi, which adds time and complexity to the trip. It's not the option we most recommend for this particular beach.
• Water taxi: During the high season, some Mykonos beaches offer water taxi services. However, for Lia, this option is less common due to its more secluded location. If you're looking for a boat experience, you're more likely to find it for beaches like Elia or Agrari, from which we could consider a land taxi for the final stretch.

The Sand and Water

The first thing that captivated us when stepping onto Playa de Lia was the quality of its sand and the impressive clarity of its waters. The sand is a pale golden hue, incredibly fine and soft to the touch, making it perfect for walking barefoot or simply lying down to sunbathe. We found no trace of pebbles or rocks on the shore, just a natural carpet that invited us to relax completely.

An Aquatic Paradise

But if the sand delighted us, the water made us fall in love. The waters of Playa de Lia are of astonishing transparency, with shades ranging from bright turquoise blue to a deep indigo in the distance. It's so crystal clear that we could see the seabed with perfect clarity, even several meters deep. This characteristic makes it an ideal spot for snorkeling, allowing us to observe marine life without the need for heavy equipment. We were surprised by the calm of the sea at Lia; being sheltered by rock formations at both ends, the bay is protected from the strongest winds, resulting in minimal waves. This makes it exceptionally safe for swimming, even for those less experienced in the water.

The entrance to the sea is gentle and gradual, making it a fantastic option for families with young children. There are no sudden drops or strong currents to worry about. We enjoyed long swims, floating carefree and feeling the gentle caress of the sun. The water temperature, especially in the summer months, is delightfully warm, inviting us to spend hours immersed in this aquatic paradise. It is, without a doubt, one of the strong points that make us recommend Playa de Lia to all those seeking an idyllic beach experience on the beaches of Greece.
