Also known locally as Trianta Beach, this beach is much more than just a place to sunbathe; it's an epicenter of activity, a paradise for lovers of wind and sea, and a place where you can feel the energy in every gust. While Rhodes is famous for its stunning beaches, Ialyssos has its own personality, marked by its ideal conditions for water sports and its cosmopolitan atmosphere.

From the moment we set foot on its shore, we realize this is no ordinary beach. The sound of the wind, the constant ebb and flow of the waves, and the sight of colorful windsurfing and kitesurfing sails crossing the horizon envelop us in an atmosphere of adventure and freedom. But it's not just for the daring; its extensive length and variety of available services make it attractive to all types of visitors, from families seeking comfort to couples looking for a day of relaxation under the Greek sun. It's one of those places that, once visited, leaves an indelible mark on our traveler's memory.

How to Get to Playa de Ialyssos

Getting to Playa de Ialyssos is relatively easy, given its proximity to the island's capital and the international airport. We found several convenient options to get to this beautiful corner of Rhodes:

From Rhodes International Airport (RHO)

The airport is only about 7-8 kilometers from Ialyssos, which greatly facilitates arrival. We can choose:

• Taxi: This is the fastest and most comfortable option, especially if we have a lot of luggage. The journey usually takes about 10-15 minutes.
• Bus: There are regular bus services from the airport to the city of Rhodes, and from there, connections to Ialyssos. It's the most economical option, although it requires a transfer.
• Rental Car: If we plan to explore the island thoroughly, renting a car directly at the airport is an excellent idea. The road to Ialyssos is direct and well signposted.

From the City of Rhodes

The city of Rhodes is located about 8-9 kilometers east of Ialyssos. We recommend:

• Public Bus: There is a regular bus line connecting the city of Rhodes with Ialyssos and other towns on the west coast. Buses are frequent during the day, especially in high season.
• Taxi: A taxi ride from the city of Rhodes to Ialyssos is quick and convenient, ideal if we prefer not to worry about parking.
• Car: Driving is easy and parking, although it can be busy in high season, is usually available on the streets near the beach or in designated parking lots.

The Sand and Water

When stepping onto Playa de Ialyssos, the first thing we notice is its particular composition. Unlike some of the sandier beaches in the south of the island, Ialyssos is characterized by a mix of coarse sand and small pebbles. This combination, which we describe as a 'mixed' ground of sand and pebble, gives it a natural and rustic appearance. While some may prefer fine sand, we found the pebbles comfortable to walk on and prevent sand from sticking to everything. That said, for greater comfort, sandals or water shoes can be useful, especially when entering and exiting the water.

The waters of Ialyssos are a true delight. They are crystal clear and a turquoise blue color that invites you to swim. Due to the prevailing winds, it's common to find moderate or even slightly more pronounced waves, which adds excitement for swimmers and is perfect for water sports. The water temperature is generally refreshing, ideal for combating the Greek summer heat. The cleanliness of the water is a point to highlight, and the fact that this beach holds the Blue Flag is a guarantee of its excellent environmental quality and the services it offers. We greatly enjoyed the feeling of its waters, which revitalized us with every dip.

Services and Facilities

Playa de Ialyssos is excellently equipped to meet the needs of its visitors, something we highly value in a beach destination. The tourist infrastructure in the area is notable, ensuring a comfortable and pleasant stay.

Among the services and facilities we highlight are:

• Sunbeds and Umbrellas: Along much of the beach, it's possible to rent umbrellas and comfortable sunbeds, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the sun without worries. There are more organized sections and others that are more free.
• Beach Bars and Chiringuitos: Numerous beach bars and chiringuitos dot the coast, offering refreshments, cocktails, snacks, and light meals. We enjoyed the convenience of being able to order something directly to our sunbed or sit on one of their terraces with sea views.
• Restaurants: In addition to the chiringuitos, there is a good selection of restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the beach, where we can taste local and international cuisine.
• Water Sports Equipment Rental: This is one of Ialyssos's strong points. We found several specialized centers where it's possible to rent windsurfing, kitesurfing, paddleboarding, and other sports equipment. They also offer lessons for beginners and advanced users.
• Showers and Toilets/WCs: There are shower and public toilet facilities distributed along the beach, which is very practical after a swim in the sea.
• Lifeguard Service: The presence of lifeguard stations ensures the safety of swimmers, especially during the high season. We always recommend paying attention to their instructions.
