Far from the hustle and bustle of the more touristy areas, Stegna presents itself as a small hidden paradise, an oasis of calm where time seems to slow down. It's one of those gems that, once you discover, you want to keep for yourself, but at the same time compels you to share so others can experience its magic.

This picturesque bay, nestled on the east coast of Rhodes, offers us a perfect combination of natural beauty and discreet amenities. Don't expect large hotel complexes or overwhelming crowds here; instead, you'll find a handful of traditional tavernas, family-run accommodations, and a beach that radiates a contagious tranquility. For us, Playa de Stegna represents the quintessence of a relaxing holiday in Greece, a place where the gentle murmur of the waves and the salty scent become the soundtrack of each day.

How to Get to Playa de Stegna

Getting to Playa de Stegna is part of the adventure and charm of discovering this hidden treasure. Being a bit off the main routes, it offers us a more intimate experience. From the city of Rhodes, the capital, it will take us approximately 45-55 minutes by car. The route is simple and well-signposted, winding through Mediterranean landscapes that prepare us for the beauty of the coast.

By Car

Definitely, renting a car is the option we always recommend for exploring Rhodes at our own pace, and to get to Stegna is no exception. From Rhodes International Airport (RHO), the journey is similar, about 40-50 minutes. We simply have to follow the main road that runs along the east coast, passing through towns like Faliraki and Kolymbia, and then take the well-marked turnoff towards Stegna. The road down to the beach is a bit winding, but it's in good condition and offers spectacular views of the bay as you descend. There is parking available, although in high season it can be a bit more difficult to find a spot right on the beachfront, but there are always options on adjacent streets or small private parking lots.

By Bus

For those who prefer not to drive, there is the option of public transport. We can take a bus from the Rhodes city station (or from the airport) to Archangelos, the village closest to Stegna. Once in Archangelos, we'll need to take a local taxi for the last 3-4 kilometers to the beach. Although feasible, this option is less flexible and can consume more time, especially if we're traveling with children or a lot of luggage. We always value the freedom of movement that a car gives us to be able to explore every corner of Rhodes and its beaches in Greece.

The Sand and Water

The first thing that catches our attention when stepping onto Playa de Stegna is its unique composition. It's not a purely fine sand beach, nor is it a pebble beach; it's a mixed beach, with a pleasant mix of golden sand and small pebbles. This combination has its advantages: the water tends to be incredibly clear, as the pebbles help prevent the sand from being easily stirred up, and at the same time, it's comfortable for walking and lying down. We always appreciate this texture, as it prevents sand from sticking everywhere when we come out of the water.

The water at Stegna is simply spectacular. Of a translucent turquoise color that immediately invites you to dive in, its temperature is pleasantly warm during the summer months. Furthermore, the waters are shallow at the shore, making it an exceptionally safe place for the little ones. The bay is protected from the prevailing winds, which means the sea is usually calm, like a natural swimming pool. We love swimming here, feeling the sun warm our skin and the gentle sway of the waves rock us. The underwater visibility is excellent, making it ideal for snorkeling, even close to the shore, where we can observe small fish and local marine life. It's one of those beaches in Rhodes that reminds us why we love the Mediterranean so much.

Services and Facilities

Although Playa de Stegna maintains a relaxed and less crowded atmosphere, it doesn't skimp on offering an excellent range of services that guarantee a comfortable and pleasant stay for all its visitors. We always value finding a balance between natural beauty and necessary comforts, and Stegna achieves this perfectly.

Essential Amenities

On most of the beach, you'll find sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent at very reasonable prices. This is a great relief on sunny summer days, allowing us to enjoy the shade and comfort. Additionally, there are several areas with public showers to rinse off the salt and sand after a refreshing swim, a detail that is always appreciated. Although it doesn't have a very extensive public restroom infrastructure, most of the nearby chiringuitos and restaurants offer access to their toilets/WCs for their customers.

Gastronomy and Leisure

One of the biggest attractions of Stegna are its numerous chiringuitos and restaurants that line the beach. Here we can enjoy authentic Greek cuisine, from fresh seafood to traditional dishes, all with unbeatable sea views. We love the possibility of having lunch just a few meters from the shore or having a refreshing drink without having to stray too far from our sunbed.
