How to Get to Playa de Marathokampos

If we arrive by plane, the nearest airport is Samos International Airport 'Aristarchos' (SMI), located near the capital, Vathy. From there, we have several options to reach our coastal paradise.

By Rental Car

Our main recommendation for exploring Samos and reaching Playa de Marathokampos is to rent a car. This gives us the freedom to move at our own pace and discover hidden corners of the island. The journey from the airport to the beach takes about an hour, traveling along well-signposted roads that offer impressive panoramic views. The Samos beach is located in Marathokampos Bay, in the southwest of the island, and access is direct from the main road that runs along the coast.

By Bus

There is a network of local buses (KTEL Samos) connecting the main towns and villages of the island. We can take a bus from Vathy or Karlovasi to Ormos Marathokampos or Votsalakia, the villages closest to the beach. However, schedules can be less frequent, especially outside the high season, and we might need a short walk or a taxi from the bus stop to our exact point on the beach. It is a more economical option, but one that requires more detailed planning.

By Taxi

Taxis are available at the airport and in the main towns. It is a comfortable and fast option, although more expensive than the bus or a rental car if we consider mobility throughout our entire stay. For a one-time transfer, it is perfectly viable.

The Sand and Water

Upon stepping onto Playa de Marathokampos, we immediately notice its characteristic surface. It is not a typical fine, golden sand beach, but a fascinating mix of smooth pebbles and coarser sand. The water temperature, especially in the summer months, is pleasantly warm, inviting us to spend hours immersed in it, enjoying the calm and beauty that surrounds us.

• Parking: In the vicinity of the beach and in nearby villages like Votsalakia and Ormos Marathokampos, we will find parking areas, some free and others paid, which facilitates access if we come by car.
