We venture into the heart of the Cyclades to discover one of its most precious treasures: Playa de Vathi on the charming island of Sifnos, Greece. This idyllic spot, with its crescent shape and incredibly calm turquoise blue waters, is much more than just a beach; it's an invitation to disconnect and enjoy the pure Mediterranean. Known for its fine golden sand and serene atmosphere, Playa de Vathi has rightfully earned the title of favorite destination for families and those seeking a haven of peace away from the bustle.

From the moment we set foot on its shore, a feeling of tranquility envelops us. The traditional tavernas, with their tables almost touching the water, promise culinary delights while the sea breeze caresses our face. How to Get to Playa de Vathi

Getting to Playa de Vathi is part of the adventure of exploring Sifnos. The most common way to access the island is by ferry from the port of Piraeus in Athens. Several companies operate this route, with journeys lasting between 3 and 6 hours, depending on the type of ferry (conventional or high-speed). Once in Sifnos, the main port is Kamares.

From Kamares, we have several options to get to Vathi, located on the southwest coast of the island:

• By bus: During the high season, there are regular bus services connecting Kamares and Apollonia (the capital of Sifnos) with Vathi. It's an economical option and allows us to enjoy the landscape. Schedules are usually well signposted, but it's advisable to confirm them in advance.
• By taxi: This is a faster and more comfortable option, ideal if we're traveling with luggage or in a group. Taxis are available at the port and in Apollonia. The journey from Apollonia to Vathi takes about 20-25 minutes.
• Car or motorbike rental: For us, this is the most recommended way to explore Sifnos and get to Vathi. It gives us total freedom to move at our own pace, discover hidden coves, and visit picturesque villages. There are several rental agencies in Kamares and Apollonia. The road to Vathi is paved and in good condition, although with some curves typical of Greek islands.
• By boat: Although not the main form of access, some small tourist boats offer excursions to Vathi from other beaches or ports on the island, especially during the summer. It's a picturesque experience that allows us to admire the coast from the sea.

The Sand and the Water

Playa de Vathi is a true delight for the senses, and much of its charm lies in the characteristics of its sand and waters. The beach stretches along a protected bay, creating an idyllic setting that looks like it's from a postcard.

The Sand

The sand of Vathi has a fine and soft texture, with a light golden tone that shines under the Cycladic sun. It's incredibly pleasant to the touch, perfect for walking barefoot, building sandcastles with the little ones, or simply relaxing on it. We don't find sharp pebbles or annoying rocks in the main beach area, making it very comfortable for everyone. Its cleanliness is notable, a testament to the care dedicated to this natural jewel.

The Water

The waters of Vathi are, without a doubt, its most distinctive and attractive feature. They are crystal clear, of a vibrant turquoise blue color that invites immediate immersion. The bay, being so well protected, means waves are practically non-existent, resulting in an incredibly calm and serene sea. The entry into the water is very gradual and shallow for many meters, making it an exceptionally safe and perfect place for:

• Families with young children: The little ones can play and splash around with complete peace of mind, without worries about currents or sudden depths.
• People who are not strong swimmers or are afraid of the sea: The safety and calm of its waters offer great confidence.
• Relaxation activities: Floating, swimming calmly, or simply enjoying a refreshing dip without surprises.
