Getting to Agios Ioannis Beach (Mamma Mia Chapel) is part of the adventure and, honestly, it's a journey worth taking. Located in the northeast corner of the island of Skopelos, this beach is about 30 kilometers from the capital, Skopelos Town, and about 8 kilometers east of Glossa, the island's second-largest town. We highly recommend renting a vehicle, either a car or a motorbike, to have the freedom to explore the island at your own pace and, of course, comfortably reach this iconic place.

The road from Skopelos Town is picturesque, winding through lush pine forests and offering panoramic views of the Aegean Sea. The road is well signposted, but the last few kilometers can be a bit narrow and winding, so we always advise driving with caution, especially during the high season when traffic can be heavier. Once we approach the destination, we will find signs guiding us towards the chapel and the beach. There is an improvised Parking area or roadside parking near the beach and the base of the rock where the chapel sits. It's important to arrive early in the summer months to secure a good spot, as space is limited and the beach's popularity attracts many visitors.

From the parking area, access to the beach is relatively straightforward, descending via a short path. However, for those wishing to climb up to the famous Agios Ioannis Chapel, they must prepare for a climb of about 100 steps carved into the rock. Although it may seem like a challenge, the reward is immense: the views from the top are absolutely spectacular and allow us to appreciate the magnitude and beauty of this marine landscape. We advise wearing comfortable shoes and bringing water, especially during the warmer months, to fully enjoy the experience. The combination of the scenic road, convenient parking, and the exciting climb to the chapel makes the journey to this Skopelos beach an integral part of its charm.

The Sand and Water

The water temperature is pleasantly warm during the summer months, inviting us to spend hours immersed in its freshness and clarity. The absence of strong currents or large waves contributes to a very pleasant swimming experience, almost like being in a natural pool. We are always amazed by the purity and hue of these waters, which shine under the Greek sun like real jewels. It is the perfect place to relax, float, and simply let yourself be carried away by the beauty of the surroundings, a true representation of what we expect from a Skopelos beach.

The transition from the beach floor to the sea is smooth and gradual, making it easy to enter and exit the water. The pebbles can be a bit slippery in some areas, so we recommend wearing water shoes or aqua socks for greater comfort.
