How to Get to Playa de Kolymbithra

Getting to Playa de Kolymbithra is an exciting part of the adventure on Tinos. Located in the northern part of the island, about 15 kilometers from Chora (the capital and main port of Tinos), the journey itself is an opportunity to admire the rural and mountainous landscapes that characterize the island. We always recommend renting a car or a motorcycle upon arrival in Tinos. This not only gives us the freedom to explore Kolymbithra at our own pace, but also to discover the many other hidden wonders of the island, from its picturesque villages to its more secluded beaches. The road leading to Kolymbithra is well signposted and relatively easy to travel, although in some sections it can be a bit narrow and winding, something common on Greek island roads.

By Car or Motorcycle

From Chora, the drive takes approximately 25-30 minutes. We simply have to follow the signs towards the northern part of the island, passing through villages like Ktikados and Komi. As we approach the coast, the signs for Kolymbithra become more evident. Once there, finding parking is usually not a problem, as there is a fairly large parking area behind the main beach, Megali Kolymbithra. It is a significant advantage for those traveling with beach equipment or with children, as the comfort of having the vehicle nearby is priceless. The route offers panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and the traditional villages of Tinos, making the journey a pleasure in itself.

Public Transport

For those who prefer not to drive, there is a bus service connecting Chora with Kolymbithra, although its frequency can vary significantly depending on the season. During the summer months, buses usually operate several times a day, but it is always advisable to check the updated schedules at the Chora bus station, as they may be subject to changes. The bus stop is a short walk from Megali Kolymbithra, making it a viable option for travelers. However, if our intention is to thoroughly explore Tinos, the flexibility of our own vehicle is, without a doubt, the best option. We can also opt for a taxi from Chora, which is a comfortable, though more expensive, alternative, especially if we are traveling in a group.

The sand of Megali Kolymbithra is a beautiful golden hue, predominantly fine, although in some areas we can find small stones or pebbles that give it a mixed character. The expanse of the beach allows that, even on the busiest days, we can always find a space for ourselves, whether near the action of the beach bars or in a quieter corner for introspection.
