How to Get to Playa de Dafni

We advise you to prepare for a somewhat rustic journey, but one that is undoubtedly worth it. The beach is located on the Vasilikos peninsula, southeast of the capital, Zante (Zakynthos Town). The main road leading to the Vasilikos area is well-paved, but the last few kilometers to Dafni are usually on a dirt and gravel track, which can be narrow and have some sharp curves.

By Car or Motorbike

The most common and flexible way to get there is by rental car or motorbike. From Zante Town, the journey takes approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic and speed on the unpaved section. We recommend driving cautiously on the last stretch, especially if you are not used to this type of road. Upon arrival, you will find several improvised parking areas, often managed by local tavernas, where you can leave your vehicle. It is important to remember that, due to the protected nature of the beach, direct vehicle access to the sand is strictly prohibited. We always prefer the comfort of having our own transport to explore the island at our own pace.

By Taxi or Bus

It is also possible to take a taxi from Zante Town or from your accommodation near Vasilikos. Local taxi drivers know the way well, although the cost may be higher. As for public transport, options are limited. There is no regular bus line that goes directly to Playa de Dafni, although there are buses that reach the main towns of Vasilikos. From there, you would have to walk a considerable distance or take a local taxi for the rest of the journey. In our experience, the freedom offered by your own vehicle is invaluable for visiting places like Dafni.

The Sand and Water

When we talk about Playa de Dafni, the sand and water are undoubtedly two of its greatest attractions. We are always amazed by the quality of its sand_type: a fine and soft sand, of a beautiful golden color that shines under the Greek sun. It is the kind of sand that invites you to walk barefoot for hours, build sandcastles with children, or simply lie down and feel its warmth. This quality of the sand is also crucial for the Caretta Caretta turtles, as it facilitates the digging of their nests and protects the eggs until hatching.

The predominant ground_type is sand, which makes the entry into the sea very smooth and gradual. This is a blessing, especially for families with young children or for those who do not feel comfortable in deep water immediately. The sea at Dafni is exceptionally calm, protected by the configuration of the bay, resulting in minimal or non-existent waves most of the time. The waters are of astonishing transparency, with hues ranging from light aquamarine near the shore to a deeper blue as you go further out. We love the feeling of floating in these warm, crystal-clear waters, watching small fish swim around us. It is a perfect place for a relaxing swim or to start snorkeling and explore the seabed without much effort.
