How to Get to Marsalforn Bay Beach

Getting to Marsalforn Bay Beach is part of the adventure and, fortunately, a fairly simple process that adds charm to our visit to Gozo. The most common way to access Gozo from the main island of Malta is via a short and pleasant ferry ride.

From Malta to Gozo

Our starting point will be the port of Cirkewwa, located at the northern tip of the island of Malta. From there, Gozo Channel Line ferries operate very regularly, usually every 45 minutes, carrying passengers and vehicles to the port of Mġarr in Gozo. The journey takes approximately 25 minutes and offers spectacular views of the islands of Comino and Gozo. It is a very scenic trip that already prepares us for the beauty that awaits.

From Mġarr (Gozo) to Marsalforn Bay

Once we disembark in Mġarr, we have several options to get to Marsalforn Bay, which is about 20-25 minutes away by car:

• Rental car: If we have chosen to rent a car, the signage to Marsalforn is clear and the road, although a bit winding in some sections, is easy to travel. It is an excellent option if we plan to explore Gozo at our own pace, which we highly recommend.
• Public bus: Gozo's bus network is efficient and connects Mġarr with the island's main towns, including Marsalforn. We can take a bus from the port that will take us directly to Marsalforn or, if we prefer, transfer in Victoria (Rabat), the capital of Gozo. It is an economical option and allows us to enjoy the scenery without worries.
• Taxi or ride-hailing service: At the port of Mġarr, we will find available taxis that will take us directly to our destination in Marsalforn Bay. We can also opt for ride-hailing services if we prefer them. It is the fastest and most comfortable option if we are traveling with a lot of luggage or prefer not to drive.

The Sand and Water

As we venture onto Marsalforn Bay Beach, the first thing we notice is its characteristic mix of textures under our feet. It is not a beach of uniform fine golden sand, but rather offers an interesting combination of coarser sand and small pebbles in its main section, along with the popular rock and concrete platforms that extend along the bay. This diversity in the ground makes the experience unique and adapts to different preferences: while some prefer the softness of the sand for sunbathing, others enjoy the firmness of the rocks for more direct access to the sea or for sunbathing in a different setting.

The turquoise color, which deepens as we move away from the shore, irresistibly invites us to dive in. The underwater visibility is fantastic, making it a paradise for snorkeling, allowing us to easily observe local marine life.

It is a place where underwater exploration is a primary and highly recommended activity.
