How to Get to Playa de Tigné Point

Getting to Playa de Tigné Point in Tas-Sliema is quite straightforward, given its central location and the excellent transport connections that characterize Malta. We, when planning our visits, always consider comfort and the travel experience, and in this case, the options are varied and efficient.

By Public Bus

Malta's public bus system is the backbone of transport on the island and connects Tas-Sliema with practically all important localities. There are numerous lines that pass through the Tigné Point area or very close to it. The nearest stops are usually 'Ferries 2' or 'Sliema', located along the bustling promenade. From any of these stops, a short and pleasant walk of about 5 to 10 minutes will take us directly to the Tigné Point bathing platforms. It is an economical, ecological option and allows us to observe local life and the urban landscape during the journey, a fantastic way to immerse ourselves in the Maltese daily life. Buses are frequent and the service is reliable, especially during the high season.

By Private or Rental Car

If we prefer the independence and comfort offered by our own vehicle or a rental car, access to Tigné Point is direct via the main roads of Tas-Sliema. However, finding on-street parking can be a considerable challenge, especially during the summer months or weekends, due to the high urban density of the area. Our recommendation to avoid frustration is to use the underground parking of Tigné Point Shopping Mall. This modern car park offers ample spaces and is strategically located, leaving us just a few steps from the bathing area. It is a convenient and safe option, although, as expected, it involves a cost per hour or per day. The peace of mind of knowing our vehicle is well parked allows us to fully enjoy the beach and its surroundings.

On Foot or by Ferry from Valletta

For those staying in Tas-Sliema or the capital, Valletta, arriving on foot or by ferry is a delightful experience we highly recommend. If we are staying in Tas-Sliema, a pleasant walk along the vibrant promenade will lead us directly to Tigné Point, allowing us to enjoy sea views and coastal architecture. If, on the other hand, we are coming from Valletta, we can take the ferry that connects the two cities. The journey is short, lasting just 10-15 minutes, but it is incredibly picturesque, offering spectacular views of the Grand Harbour and the fortifications of both cities. The ferry drops us off at the Tas-Sliema harbour, very close to our destination, making it a fantastic and memorable way to start the beach day, combining transport with a mini sightseeing cruise.

The Sand and the Water

As we have already mentioned, and it is crucial to reiterate, Playa de Tigné Point is not a sandy beach in the conventional sense. Instead, we find a coastal landscape dominated by natural rocky platforms and carefully designed concrete structures, leveled to facilitate access to the sea and offer ample areas for sunbathing. This gives it a unique and distinctive character, very different from the typical sandy beaches of Malta. The surface is firm and, in many spots, stepped, allowing bathers to find their ideal corner to spread out a towel, relax by the water, or simply sit and contemplate the horizon. Some areas feature stairs and ramps for easier access to the water, enhancing the overall experience.
