This beach, as its name suggests, offers us an expanse of light, fine sand that contrasts wonderfully with the deep blue of the Mediterranean, right where it meets the Atlantic.

For us, Playa Blanca represents the essence of calm. It is the perfect place for those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle, offering a serene refuge where the only predominant sound is the gentle murmur of the waves. It is one of those Morocco beaches that, although perhaps not the most famous, leaves an indelible mark on the heart due to its relaxed atmosphere and its stunning views of the Strait of Gibraltar. Here, we can connect with nature, enjoy long walks along the shore, and simply let ourselves be carried away by the peace emanating from this coastal corner.

How to Get to Playa Blanca

Getting to Playa Blanca from Tangier is relatively straightforward, and the options vary depending on our preferences and budget. We always recommend considering renting a car if we plan to explore the surrounding area, as it gives us maximum flexibility. From the center of Tangier, the journey usually takes between 20 and 30 minutes, depending on traffic. We must head east, following the coastal road that will take us past Cap Malabata. The signs towards the eastern coastal areas are quite clear, and the beach is located in an easily accessible area, though somewhat removed from large crowds.

For those who prefer not to drive, taxis are an excellent option. In Tangier, the 'petits taxis' (small taxis) are ideal for trips within the city and its immediate surroundings. We can negotiate the price with the driver before starting the journey, which is always a good practice. A taxi will drop us off right at the entrance to the beach or nearby. Another alternative are the 'grands taxis' (large taxis), which often operate fixed routes or can be hired for longer trips, sharing the cost with other passengers if we are willing. Finally, although less direct, some local bus lines can bring us close to the area, perhaps requiring a short final walk. However, for comfort and the experience, a taxi or private car are usually our preferred choice for getting to this Tangier beach.

The Sand and Water

The main feature that gives Playa Blanca its name is, without a doubt, its sand. We can confirm that it is exceptionally fine and of a white-golden color that shines under the Moroccan sun. It is a delight to walk barefoot on it, feeling its softness between our toes, and it is perfect for children who enjoy building sandcastles without the inconvenience of coarse sand or stones. The beach's expanse, about 700 meters, offers enough space for each visitor to find their corner of peace without feeling crowded, even on the busiest summer days.

As for the water, the waters of Playa Blanca are generally calm and clear, especially during the summer months. Being located in a relatively protected bay or cove, currents are usually not strong, making it a very safe place for swimming. The sea temperature is pleasant from late spring to early autumn, inviting long dips and refreshing swims. The clarity of the water allows us to see the sandy bottom, which adds an extra layer of confidence, especially if we are traveling with young children. It is certainly one of the strong points of this charming Playa Blanca beach.

Services and Facilities

Despite its tranquil and somewhat less developed atmosphere compared to other Tangier beaches, Playa Blanca offers a range of basic services that ensure a comfortable and pleasant stay. During the high season, generally from June to September, we find small Chiringuitos that set up on the beach. These establishments usually offer refreshing drinks, simple snacks, and sometimes fresh seafood dishes. They are perfect for quenching thirst or appetite without having to leave the shore.

Furthermore, it is common to find stalls where we can rent Sun umbrellas and sun loungers, allowing us to enjoy shade and comfort throughout the day. For everyone's safety, especially in summer, there is usually a Lifeguard service watching over swimmers. Although it does not have as elaborate an infrastructure of showers and toilets as the beaches of large resorts, basic Showers with cold water and simple Toilets/WCs are often available, managed by the chiringuitos themselves or by small local businesses. Parking is usually informal, with spaces provided along the access road, making it easy to arrive by car. It is important to remember that many of these services are seasonal, so if we visit outside the summer months, we may find fewer options available.

Best Time to Visit

The choice of the best time to visit Playa Blanca in Tangier largely depends on our priorities. We, as beach tourism experts, always consider spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) to be the ideal times for those looking to enjoy the beach with pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds. During these months, the weather is mild, with sunny days and a refreshing sea breeze.
