How to Get to Playa Balandra

Getting to the splendid Playa Balandra is part of the adventure and, fortunately, it is quite straightforward from La Paz, the capital of Baja California Sur. We always recommend planning transportation in advance, especially during the high season, as access to Balandra is regulated to protect its ecosystem, and sometimes the number of visitors is limited.

From La Paz, the ideal starting point

La Paz is about 30-40 minutes by car from Balandra. The most common options to get there include:

• Private or rental car: This is the option we prefer, as it gives us the freedom to explore at our own pace and stop at viewpoints along the way. The road to Balandra is paved and in good condition, making the journey very pleasant. Simply take federal highway 11 heading north, following the signs to beaches like El Tecolote and Pichilingue; Balandra is located before El Tecolote.
• Taxi or private transportation services: If we don't have a car, we can hire a taxi or a ride-hailing service from La Paz. It is advisable to negotiate the fare with the taxi driver for the round trip, including a waiting time at the beach, as it can be difficult to find a taxi back directly from Balandra.
• Organized tours: Numerous tourist agencies in La Paz offer excursions to Balandra, often combined with visits to other nearby beaches or activities like snorkeling and paddleboarding. This is an excellent option if we prefer the convenience of an all-inclusive package and don't want to worry about logistics. We have found that these tours are usually very comprehensive and allow us to enjoy ourselves without worries.

It is crucial to consider that, due to its status as a protected natural area, Balandra has access hours and a limited capacity. We always advise arriving early in the morning to secure our spot, especially on weekends or during holidays. Furthermore, parking is limited, so an early arrival will make it easier for us to find a space. Let's not forget to bring everything we need, as services on the beach are minimal to preserve its natural state.
