From Ensenada, we can take the transpeninsular highway (Mexico 1) south and then turn east onto highway 3, which will lead us to highway 5. This route is a bit longer and more winding, but offers spectacular views of the Pacific coast before crossing the peninsula to the Sea of Cortez. From Tijuana, the route is similar, passing through Ensenada or directly to Mexicali to take highway 5. In any case, we always advise planning the trip in advance, checking road conditions, and making sure to carry enough water and fuel, especially if we venture onto less-traveled routes.
