It is, without a doubt, one of the Sinaloa beaches we most highly recommend.
How to Get to Playa Camarón
Getting to Playa Camarón is surprisingly easy, as Mazatlán is a city with excellent tourist infrastructure. Our main starting point will be the General Rafael Buelna International Airport (MZT), which receives domestic and international flights from various cities. Once at the airport, we have several options to get to the city and, specifically, to the Golden Zone where our beloved beach is located.
From Mazatlán International Airport (MZT)
- Taxis and Ride-Hailing Services: These are the most direct and comfortable option. Authorized taxis are available right outside the airport. We can also opt for private transportation services or ride-sharing apps, which are often a bit more economical. The journey to the Golden Zone takes approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic.
- Shared Shuttle Service: Some companies offer shared shuttle services that will take us directly to our hotel in the Golden Zone. It's a more economical option than a private taxi, although it may involve a few additional stops.
- Car Rental: If we prefer the freedom to explore, we recommend renting a car at the airport. The highway is in excellent condition, and the signage to the Golden Zone is clear. Furthermore, having a vehicle will allow us to take excursions to the surrounding areas more easily.
Once in Mazatlán
Once we are in the city, getting to Playa Camarón is even easier, especially if we are staying in the Golden Zone. The beach stretches along the famous Malecón of Mazatlán, one of the longest coastal avenues in the world, making it very accessible.
- Walking: If our hotel is in the Golden Zone, we can most likely reach the beach on foot in a few minutes. It's a pleasant and safe walk.
- 'Pulmonías': These iconic open-air vehicles are a symbol of Mazatlán and a fun, economical way to get around. We can take a 'pulmonía' from any point in the Golden Zone or the Historic Center to drop us off right at the beach entrance.
- Taxis and City Buses: Taxis are abundant, and city buses frequently run along the Malecón, offering an even more economical option for getting around.
The Sand and the Water
When we talk about Playa Camarón, the quality of its sand and the nature of its waters are, without a doubt, two of its greatest attractions. We, who have traveled countless coasts, can affirm that this beach offers a very gratifying sensory experience.
The Sand: A Golden and Soft Blanket
The sand of Playa Camarón is predominantly fine and of a light golden tone, almost beige, that shines under the Sinaloan sun. Walking barefoot, we notice its softness, making it perfect for long walks along the shore, for children to build sandcastles, or simply to spread out our towel and relax. Unlike other beaches with coarse or rocky sand, here we won't find large rocks or annoying shells, which guarantees a comfortable and safe surface for all ages. In some areas, especially near the tide line, the sand may be a bit more compact, facilitating the practice of beach sports like volleyball or soccer.
The Water: Warm and Welcoming
The Pacific waters at Playa Camarón are, for the most part, warm and very pleasant during most of the year. The temperature is ideal for swimming and spending hours in the sea without feeling cold. The water clarity is good for an urban beach; while it's not the crystal-clear turquoise blue of some Caribbean beaches, we can see our feet when walking along the shore and enjoy a feeling of cleanliness. The water's hue tends to be a soft greenish-blue, which intensifies with depth and the reflection of the sky.
Tides and Waves
One of the most appreciated characteristics of Playa Camarón, especially by families, is its generally gentle waves. The waves are moderate, making it a safe place to swim, even for young children or those who are not expert swimmers. It is not a beach known for big surf breaks, which is precisely what
