It is essential to clarify from the start that we are not referring to the famous Miramar beach in Tamaulipas, but to its Tabasco namesake, which possesses a particular charm and an unparalleled atmosphere.

We are faced with an ideal option for enjoying relaxed family vacations, tasting the exquisite local cuisine, and simply letting ourselves be carried away by the serenity of the sea.

How to Get to Playa Miramar

Getting to Playa Miramar is relatively straightforward, especially if we depart from Villahermosa, the capital of Tabasco. From there, the journey is approximately 90 to 100 kilometers, which translates to a trip of between an hour and a half and two hours by car, depending on traffic and road conditions. The most common route is to take Federal Highway 180 towards Cárdenas, and then turn off towards Paraíso via Federal Highway 180D (if seeking a faster toll road) or continue on the free 180 to the junction with the state road that leads directly to Paraíso. Once in Paraíso, signs will guide us without difficulty to the coast.

Transportation Options

• By private car: This is the most comfortable and flexible option, allowing us to explore the surroundings at our own pace. The roads are in good condition for most of the journey.
• By bus: From the Villahermosa bus terminal, we can take a direct bus to Paraíso. Once in Paraíso, a local taxi or a 'colectivo' (shared van) will take us to the beach. This is an economical and accessible alternative for those who prefer not to drive.
• Taxi or ride-hailing services: It is also possible to hire a taxi or a private transportation service from Villahermosa, although this option is usually more expensive. However, it can be convenient if we are traveling in a group and seeking maximum comfort.

The Sand and Water

Upon setting foot on Playa Miramar, we are greeted by fine, soft sand, with a tone ranging from golden to light gray, characteristic of Tabasco beaches in this region of the Gulf. It is pleasant to the touch, perfect for walking barefoot, building sandcastles, or simply lying down to sunbathe. The beach is quite extensive, giving us a sense of space and freedom, even on days with a higher influx of visitors.

The waters of the Gulf of Mexico in this area are generally warm and calm, with a gentle swell that makes them ideal for swimming, especially for children and people who are not comfortable with strong currents. The color of the water can vary, often showing emerald tones or a more turbid green due to the nearby river mouths carrying sediments, which is common in this part of the Gulf. However, its quality is good and the experience of swimming in them is very pleasant. The shallow depth near the shore allows for a safe and refreshing dip.

This does not mean it lacks services, but rather that they are presented in a more authentic way, rooted in Tabasco culture. • Chiringuitos/Enramadas: They are the heart of beach life. Here, delicious seafood and fish are prepared, and they usually offer umbrella and sunbed rentals for greater comfort.
• Parking: Generally, there are parking areas near the beach, some managed by the owners of the enramadas or by private individuals, with a symbolic fee.
• Lifeguards: During the high vacation season (Easter, summer), there are usually lifeguards monitoring the beach to ensure the safety of swimmers. It is always important to pay attention to safety instructions.
• Showers and restrooms: Some of the food establishments offer basic showers and restrooms for their customers, which is very useful after a day at the beach.
• Umbrellas and sunbeds: As mentioned, it is common for the enramadas to offer them for rent, allowing us to rest comfortably in the shade.

Best Time to Visit

To fully enjoy Playa Miramar and Tabasco beaches in general, the choice of time of year is crucial. We recommend visiting between the months of November and May. During this period, the climate in Tabasco is drier and sunnier, with pleasant temperatures around 25-30°C and relatively lower humidity, making the stay at the beach much more comfortable. The days are long and the chances of rain are minimal, guaranteeing clear skies to enjoy the sun and the sea.
