How to Get to Playa Bagdad

Getting to Playa Bagdad is a fundamental part of the adventure, and fortunately, access is quite simple, especially if we start from the city of Matamoros, which is its main gateway. We always recommend planning the trip in advance, especially if you plan to visit during high seasons, when tourist influx is greater and roads may be busier.

From Matamoros

The most common and comfortable way to access the beach is by road. From the center of Matamoros, the journey by car takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes, covering a distance of about 30-35 kilometers. The main route is to take Federal Highway 2D and then follow the signs to the beach, which are usually well marked. The road is easy to navigate and allows us to enjoy the semi-arid landscape that gradually transforms into more coastal vegetation, announcing the proximity of the sea.

• By private car: This is, without a doubt, the most flexible option. It allows us to bring all our beach gear, from umbrellas and coolers to toys for the children, and gives us the freedom to explore the surroundings at our own pace. Fortunately, there is ample parking available in the beach area, although on holidays and long weekends it can fill up quickly, so arriving early is a good strategy.
• Public transportation: For those who prefer not to drive, from Matamoros there are urban bus services with direct routes to Playa Bagdad. These buses are an economical and frequent option, especially during the day and on weekends. Departure points are usually found in the city center or at specific local transport terminals. We can also opt for taxis or private transportation services via apps, which offer greater comfort and speed, albeit at a higher cost. It is an excellent alternative for those traveling without a vehicle or who wish to relax without worrying about parking.

From Other Cities in Tamaulipas and Beyond

If we are coming from other cities in Tamaulipas, such as Reynosa, Ciudad Victoria, or Tampico, we will need to take the corresponding federal highways to Matamoros and, from there, follow the aforementioned directions. The roads in Tamaulipas are usually in good condition, but it is always prudent to check the state of the roads and safety conditions before embarking on a long trip. For those arriving from outside the state or the country, the General Servando Canales International Airport of Matamoros (MAM) is the closest option, with domestic flights and connections. From the airport, you can take a taxi or rent a car to get to the beach.
