How to Get to Playa Progreso

Progreso enjoys an excellent location and connectivity. The most common and convenient way to get there is through Mérida, the capital of the state of Yucatán, which is only about 30-40 minutes away by car.

From Mérida

• Rental Car: Our preferred option for exploring freely. The Mérida-Progreso highway (Federal Highway 261) is modern and safe.
• Bus: Frequent and economical services from Mérida's Bus Terminal, departing every 15-20 minutes.
• Colectivos or Vans: Shared minibuses, faster and popular among locals.
• Taxis or ride-hailing services: For greater comfort, available in the city.

For Cruise Passengers

Progreso is a popular port. Passengers disembark at the famous pier and are transported by bus or taxi directly to the city center and the malecón, where the Playa Progreso beach experience begins.

When we first step onto Playa Progreso, we are captivated by the quality of its sand. It is fine, of a light, almost white color, incredibly soft under our feet. Its texture makes it perfect for building sandcastles or simply relaxing. The predominant type of ground is sand, offering a uniform and pleasant environment for everyone.

The waters of Progreso are another of its great attractions. They are characterized by being calm and shallow, making them very safe for swimming. Their color varies between light turquoise and greenish-blue. Being a beach protected by the long pier, the waves are usually very gentle, almost non-existent in many stretches, creating a large natural pool. The water temperature is warm for most of the year, inviting us to dive in and enjoy.

We consider the best time to visit Progreso to be from November to April. The weather is sunny, with pleasant temperatures (25°C-30°C) and lower humidity. Sea breezes are constant. The chances of rain are low, guaranteeing clear skies. November and December are ideal for comfort and lower crowds. January to March is high season, with excellent weather but more people.

The Rainy Season (May to October)

During these months, temperatures are higher and humidity increases. Intense, short downpours are common, often in the afternoon. It coincides with the hurricane season, so we recommend monitoring the forecast. The advantage is that prices are usually lower and the beach is less crowded.
