Although the indicated administrative municipality is Beja, it is important to clarify that Praia del Malhão is specifically located in the municipality of Odemira, within the district of Beja, in the Alentejo region. This location gives it a rural and authentic character, very different from that of large cities. How to get to Praia del Malhão

Getting to Praia del Malhão is part of the adventure. Don't expect major highways that drop you right on the sand; here, the road is a bit more rustic, which helps maintain its wild charm. From Vila Nova de Milfontes, one of the best-known villages in the area, the journey is short, just 10-15 minutes by car. You need to take the coastal road, which winds through rural landscapes and offers spectacular views.

Normally, the final access to the beach involves a stretch of dirt road, well signposted, that leads to an informal parking area. This parking, although not paved or precisely delimited, usually has enough space, even in high season, to leave your vehicle. From there, a short path leads directly to the sand. We always recommend driving carefully on these roads, especially if you are not used to unpaved surfaces. It's an experience that, far from being an inconvenience, prepares you for the natural beauty you are about to find.

• From Vila Nova de Milfontes: Head south on the M532-1 and follow the signs to the beach.
• From Odemira: Take the N120 and then turn off towards the coast following the signs.
• Public transport: It is difficult to reach by public transport. The best option is always your own car or a rental to explore the area freely.

The sand and the water

Praia del Malhão is a beach with predominantly fine and golden sand, stretching for several hundred meters, inviting long barefoot walks. As you walk along it, you'll notice the sand is soft underfoot, a real pleasure. It is flanked by impressive cliffs in ochre and reddish tones, giving it a dramatic and photogenic appearance, and which partially protect it from the wind, creating small, more sheltered corners.

For us, this is part of its charm; a swim at Malhão is always refreshing and invigorating. It is important to note that the waves are often considerable, making it a reference point for lovers of surfing and bodyboarding. The strength of the sea here is a distinctive feature, so we always recommend caution, especially if traveling with small children or if you are not used to this type of surf.

Services and facilities

Unlike urban beaches, Praia del Malhão is characterized by its natural character and, therefore, its services are more limited, which helps preserve its essence. You won't find large tourist complexes or excessive infrastructure here, and that's precisely what we like about it. However, it has the essentials to ensure a comfortable and safe visit during the bathing season.

During the summer months, and generally from June to September, the beach has lifeguard services, which gives us extra peace of mind when enjoying its powerful waves. Seeing the green or yellow flag flying indicates the sea conditions and the presence of surveillance. Furthermore, it is common to find one or two chiringuitos or small beach bars. These establishments are usually modest, offering refreshing drinks, ice creams, and some fast food or snack options. They are the perfect place to recharge and enjoy the views.

Regarding other facilities, as mentioned, there is an informal parking area near the beach. Bathrooms/WCs (portable or associated with the chiringuitos) are also usually set up during the high season. What you won't find are
