How to Get to Praia de Dona Ana

Getting to Praia de Dona Ana is relatively straightforward, though it requires a small effort that, we assure you, is completely worth it. The beach is located in the town of Lagos, in the district of Faro, in southern Portugal. The main entry point for most international visitors is Faro Airport (FAO), which is approximately 90 kilometers from Lagos. From the airport, you have several options to reach your final destination.

From Faro Airport

• Rental car: This is, without a doubt, the most comfortable option and the one we recommend for exploring the Algarve at your own pace. The journey to Lagos takes about an hour via the A22 motorway (with tolls) or a bit longer via national roads that offer more picturesque landscapes. Having a car will give you the freedom to visit other beaches and charming villages in the surrounding area.
• Private transfer or taxi: You can book a private transfer in advance or take a taxi directly from the airport. It is a more expensive option, but very convenient if you are traveling with a lot of luggage or prefer not to drive.
• Public transport: You can take a bus from the airport to the train or bus station in Faro and, from there, take a train or direct bus to Lagos. Trains and buses in Portugal are efficient and comfortable, but the journey may be longer due to connections.

Once in Lagos

Once you are in Lagos, Praia de Dona Ana is a short distance from the city center.

• On foot: If your accommodation is in the center of Lagos or near the marina, you can reach the beach on foot in about 15-20 minutes. It's a pleasant walk through the city streets and then along the coast.
• Local bus: There are local bus lines (known as 'A ONDA') that can take you near the beach. Check the schedules and routes at the Lagos bus station or at designated stops.
• Taxi or ride-hailing service: You always have the option of a taxi or ride-hailing services for a quick and hassle-free trip from any point in Lagos to the beach entrance.
• Parking: If you go by car, you will find a parking lot (often paid, especially in high season) at the top of the cliff, right above the beach. From there, access to the sand is via a long wooden staircase that descends the cliff, offering spectacular views during the descent.

The Sand and Water

Praia de Dona Ana offers an unparalleled experience in terms of its sand and waters, which are, without a doubt, two of its greatest attractions. The sand is an intense golden color, fine and soft to the touch, inviting long barefoot walks or simply spreading out a towel and enjoying the Portuguese sun. Despite its popularity, the beach usually remains clean and well-maintained, contributing to the feeling of paradise that surrounds it.

The rock formations emerging from the sea and bordering the beach are a distinctive feature.
