How to get to Praia de Meia Praia

Getting to Praia de Meia Praia is relatively easy, especially if we are exploring the beautiful Algarve region. The beach stretches east of Lagos, and its main access is through this city. If we arrive by plane, the nearest airport is Faro, which is about 90 kilometers away. From Faro Airport, we can choose to rent a car, which will give us the freedom to explore the region at our own pace, or take a bus or train that goes directly to Lagos.

By car

We always recommend a car for greater comfort. From Faro, we will take the A22 motorway west towards Lagos. Once in Lagos, the signs to the Marina or the beach are clear. There are several entrances to the beach along its length, with parking available, some free and others paid, especially near the 'chiringuito' areas. It's important to know that, although the beach is long, the further we get from the center of Lagos, the easier it will be to find parking and the less crowded the beach will be.

By public transport

If we prefer public transport, from Faro train station we can take a regional train to Lagos. The journey is picturesque and offers us views of the coast. Once at Lagos train station, Praia de Meia Praia is a short walk away, especially if we head to the part closest to the Marina. There are also urban buses connecting the center of Lagos with different points on the beach, making access easier for those without their own vehicle.

The sand and the water

The first thing that catches our attention when stepping onto Praia de Meia Praia is its fine golden sand, which stretches before our eyes like a soft, welcoming blanket. It's the perfect type of sand for building castles, enjoying a nap in the sun, or simply feeling it between our toes as we walk. Its golden hue contrasts wonderfully with the crystal blue of the ocean, creating a postcard-worthy landscape that invites us to immerse ourselves in its waters.

The waters of Meia Praia are, in general, quite calm and clear, especially during the summer months. This is due to its orientation and the fact that it is relatively protected from large waves, making it a safe and pleasant place for swimming, even for the little ones. The water temperature is typical of the Atlantic in the Algarve: refreshing at first, but delightful once we get used to it. We love the feeling of swimming in these waters, which often offer excellent visibility, ideal for those who enjoy a bit of snorkeling near the shore, although we shouldn't expect large reefs, the marine life is simple and curious.

• Sunbeds and Umbrellas: For those seeking maximum comfort, it's possible to rent umbrellas and sunbeds at various points on the beach. This allows us to relax without having to carry our own equipment.
• Showers and Toilets/WC: Essential for our comfort, we find showers to wash off the salt and sand after swimming, as well as clean and accessible toilet facilities.
• Lifeguards: During the high season, the beach has lifeguard posts that watch over our safety, which gives us great peace of mind, especially if we're with children.
• Parking: As mentioned before, there are several parking areas along the beach, making car access easy.
• Equipment Rental: For water sports lovers, there are equipment rental points where we can get everything from paddle surf boards to kayaks or jet skis. It's also common to find surf and windsurf schools, especially on days with a bit more wind.
