How to Get to Praia de Santa Rita

Getting to Praia de Santa Rita is quite straightforward, although, like many of the hidden gems of the Portuguese coast, a car is the most convenient and practical means of transport. We always prefer the freedom that driving gives us to explore at our own pace.

By Car

From the city of Leiria, the journey takes approximately 20-25 minutes. We need to take the N242 heading west towards the coast. The road is well signposted and leads directly to the vicinity of the beach. If we're coming from larger cities like Lisbon or Porto, the A8 motorway is the main route. Once near the coast, the signs for 'Praia de Santa Rita' are clear. There is a spacious and well-organized parking area right next to the sandy beach, which is a great advantage, especially in high season, as it saves us worry and allows us to go straight to enjoying the sea.

Public Transport

Although there are some bus lines connecting Leiria with nearby coastal towns, the frequency can be limited, especially outside the summer season. To get directly to Praia de Santa Rita, public transport is not the most direct or comfortable option. Our recommendation is to rent a car if we are not traveling with our own, as it will allow us to explore not only the beach but also all the charms of the surrounding area, which are many.
