How to Get to Praia de Valmitão

Getting to Praia de Valmitão from Lisbon is relatively simple, making it a very attractive option for a day trip or a longer stay. We always recommend planning the journey to avoid setbacks, especially during the high season.

By Car

For us, the most comfortable and flexible option is, without a doubt, the car. From central Lisbon, the journey usually takes between 25 and 40 minutes, depending on traffic. We must cross the iconic 25 de Abril Bridge (which offers spectacular views of the city and the Tagus River) and follow the signs towards the A33 and then towards Costa da Caparica. Once in the Costa da Caparica area, we'll find various signs guiding us to the different Lisbon beaches, including Valmitão. There are parking lots, both paid and free (though the latter tend to fill up quickly in summer), near the beach. Sometimes, we can find parking on adjacent streets, but we must pay attention to restrictions.

By Public Transport

If we prefer not to drive, public transport is an excellent alternative. From Lisbon, we can take a bus from the TST company (Transportes Sul do Tejo) that will take us directly to Costa da Caparica. The main departure stops in Lisbon are Praça de Espanha or Cais do Sodré. The bus journey takes approximately 30-50 minutes. Once in Costa da Caparica, we can walk to Praia de Valmitão (many of the Lisbon beaches in this area are connected by wooden walkways) or take a local bus that runs along the coast, like the 'Transpraia' in summer, which is a small tourist train that stops at several beaches.

Other Means

We can also opt for a taxi service or a VTC (like Uber or Bolt), which will offer the convenience of a direct door-to-door journey, though at a higher cost. For those who enjoy cycling, it's possible to reach it by bike from Lisbon, crossing the bridge and using the existing bike lanes, although it's a longer and more demanding route.
