How to get to Praia de Moledo

Getting to Praia de Moledo is relatively straightforward, given its good connection on the northern coast of Portugal. We always recommend planning the route in advance to make the most of the trip.

By car

It is, without a doubt, the most comfortable option and the one that offers us the most flexibility to explore the surroundings. Praia de Moledo is very well connected via the A28 motorway, which runs along the coast from Porto to Caminha, passing through Viana do Castelo. If we're coming from the south (Porto, Viana do Castelo), we just need to follow the A28 northbound and take the exit towards Moledo. From the north (Spain, for example, Tui), the A28 will also take us directly. Once in Moledo, the signage to the beach is clear and will guide us to the parking areas, which are usually spacious, although they can fill up quickly during peak season. It's important to remember that parking may be paid in some areas during the summer months.

By train

A more picturesque and sustainable option is the train. The Minho railway line, which connects Porto with Valença, has a station in Moledo. Moledo station is within walking distance of the beach, making it an excellent alternative if we prefer to leave the car and enjoy the views of the coastal landscape during the journey. It's an experience we value greatly for its authenticity and for allowing us to observe the coast from a different perspective.

By bus

There are bus lines connecting Moledo with Viana do Castelo and other nearby towns, although the frequency may be lower than that of the train, especially outside the peak season. If we choose this route, it's advisable to check the schedules in advance to avoid unnecessary waits.

The sand and the water

Praia de Moledo welcomes us with a vast expanse of fine, golden sand, characteristic of the northern Portuguese coast. Walking on it, we feel that softness under our feet, inviting us to walk barefoot for kilometers. It's clean, well-maintained sand, stretching for approximately one kilometer, offering generous space for all visitors, even on the busiest days. This spaciousness is one of the beach's strong points, as we can always find a spot to lay out our towel and enjoy the tranquility.

The waters of Praia de Moledo are those of the Atlantic Ocean, which means they are usually cool, even in the height of summer. However, their temperature is perfectly bearable and, in fact, is very refreshing on hot days. We find generally clean and crystal-clear waters, and their quality is certified by the Blue Flag that flies proudly every year. It's a sign that the environmental and safety conditions are optimal, something we always greatly value.

The beach is known for its waves, which, although not always huge, are constant and offer an ideal setting for water sports. This is partly due to its direct exposure to the Atlantic and the prevailing winds. For those not venturing out with a board, the waves are perfect for playing at the shore or simply enjoying a revitalizing swim. It is important, however, to pay attention to currents, especially if we are not used to oceanic beaches, and always follow the instructions of the lifeguards.
